Every *purchased* image undergoes\u00a0 retouching to remove blemishes, mistakes and other unsightly things.\u00a0 Many people refer to this as Photoshopping an image, or a decade ago I heard the term “airbrushing” a lot.\u00a0 Some budding photographers say “editing”.\u00a0 The point is, the images are cleaned up… Much like how you run the vacuum before your in-laws come for a visit.<\/p>\n
So what blemishes would be addressed in retouching?…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n If you would clean it up with makeup or a bath, that’s what needs retouching!\u00a0 Snot, zits, acne, cradle cap, stork bites, flaky skin and bruises are obvious. \u00a0Crusties anywhere on the skin, red blotches, dark circles, eye boogers, and stray fly-away hairs are even more common. \u00a0Adults, even when they’re still young, have age spots and wrinkles. \u00a0…<\/p>\n The topic of wrinkles starts to get tricky. \u00a0Wrinkles begin to cross over from “blemish” to “character.”\u00a0 I don’t ever remove character. \u00a0If I remove a person’s character, they quickly become “not them self,” and then I have over-retouched an image. \u00a0Over-retouching is always worse than under-retouching. \u00a0So many of these things are purely a judgement call. \u00a0This is a definite instance where I would ask, “would I want this “fixed” if it were me<\/em> or my<\/em> child or my<\/em> husband?”<\/p>\n I am a plastic surgeon! HA!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n There is also “plastic surgery” and “doing laundry”…\u00a0 ‘Why YES, I’m happy to shrink your love handle,’ and ‘of course I’ll remove the spit-up from your shirt.’\u00a0 \u00a0‘Dirt on you son’s khaki pants? no problem!!!’\u00a0 If you ever have a question about what I might address, don’t hesitate to ask!<\/p>\n
